CARE CERTIFICATE

It is a set of standards that social care and health workers stick to in their daily working life.

Who should take this course? Anyone starting work in the health or social care sectors should complete the certificate, including health care assistants, assistant practitioners, care support workers, adult social care workers providing direct care in residential and nursing homes and hospices and home care workers.

Care Certificate training recommended by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) that employers in the health or social care sectors should deliver the Care Certificate as part of their staff induction programmes. This course is the ideal resource to allow staff to go on to achieve the full Care Certificate or the relevant standards within it.

What does it cover?
This course not only covers training content of the 15 standards that make up the complete knowledge requirement of the Care Certificate, but also helps staff compile the portfolio of evidence required to obtain the certificate. Each of the 15 Standards will have its own Competency Workbook. A combination of Online Learning and Knowledge and Observation of the Competency elements in the Work- place will collectively form the Care Certificate package.

The Care Certificate Standards covered:

  1. Understand your role
  2. Your personal development
  3. Duty of care
  4. Equality and diversity
  5. Work in a person centred way
  6. Communication
  7. Privacy and dignity
  8. Fluids and nutrition
  9. Awareness of mental health, dementia and learning disabilities
  10. Safeguarding adults
  11. Safeguarding children
  12. Basic life support
  13. Health and safety
  14. Handling information
  15. Infection prevention and control

Assessment:
Assessment is completed through completion of the work-book and the Competency observation in the work-place.

How does the Care Certificate works?
There’s two parts to the Care Certificate:

  • Training (at our Academy or at your premises) – Our experts led
  • Demonstrating competence at work – Your staff supervisor / mentor or manager led (sign off)

 Key benefits include:

  • On site assessment and supervision of staff  whilst carrying out their duties marking learner workbooks and providing constructive feedback and support
  • Distance learning options where units are not able to be completed in the workplace
  • 5 day Accredited training that cover all the units. Ideal for larger companies with regularly more than 10 staff to induct every three months.

Each situation is unique, for an accurate quote of costs call with your specific details.

Workbook
The Care Certificate workbook is a free downloadable resource to support the training process and help you and your new workers cover parts of the Care Certificate. There is a workbook for each standard supported by an introduction and glossary. Each standard includes knowledge content and ends with a section where learners can record their understanding.

Use of the Care Certificate workbook is optional
The use of the workbook is optional and you might want to adapt or develop your own materials to meet the standards. You can choose to incorporate some or all of the workbook into your induction programmes.

The Care Certificate workbook is not available in a hard copy format. This is to ensure the resource can be produced and maintained free of charge. We have not received any funding to produce hard copies – should there be significant employer demand, we would consider introducing this as a priced publication.

Saving this evidence
The assessments in these workbooks have answer fields you can fill in electronically. If the workbooks are filled in on a computer they can be saved using ‘save as’. Learners should be encouraged to save their work and share with you. You may wish to save this alongside your other staff records.

Employer responsibility to assess competence, provide additional learning
There is no answer book to accompany the workbook. It is your responsibility to judge the competency of your workers and arrange additional training, support and supervision as required.
